Welded attachments are among the most commonly used connection
details in wind turbine towers. At the same time, they affect local stress
concentrations and therefore the fatigue strength of the tower shell.
With PE-90, PEC has developed a patented solution that specifically reduces
the influence of welded attachments on the tower wall. Optimized load
transfer reduces local stress peaks and enables improved fatigue
performance in the area of the welded detail.
This creates new potential for the design of tower structures – for example
through reduced wall thicknesses and lower material usage while maintaining
the same high level of structural safety.
PE-90 is already being used in wind energy projects and supports manufacturers
in developing more efficient tower structures.
